How can you convert sheet music for other instruments to be playable on the cello?
Is there anyway to take sheet music arranged for either guitar, bass, or piano(these are instruments that are easy to find sheet music for), and convert to play on the cello? I know that bass guitar is in bass clef, but the strings are different, but can I play any music in bass clef on the cello?
If it is a melodic instrument, then you just need to change the cef, and transpose if necessary ( if you are starting with a transposing instrument, like tenor sax, clarinet, etc.). You can use Finale Notepad to do this – www.finalemusic.com. Ten bucks.
If starting with piano music, you need to isolate the melody, and then transpose it, or re-write it in the bass clef, at the very least. If it is VOICE and piano – easy! This is a WONDERFUL way to learn theory skills – and if you use digital notation software, you get a nice clean copy, which you can then manipulate in the future. I arrange chamber music fro my professional groups ( over 25 years doing this) so can speak with assurance on this. Good luck!
